Kobo, Calibre and Ubuntu

I picked my Daughter a Kobo 5" mini up, she was carrying lots of books in her school bag and she has always enjoyed reading so I picked up a nice Mini with a sleep cover.

I run Calibre on my Ubuntu server and with the Kobo ereader it wasn't clear if I needed any drivers etc.

Anyway, I plugged it in, Kobo pops up and says Computer detected, you press Connect.

Ubuntu see's it straight away and identifies it as Kobo reader.

What's nice, Calibre  puts a Tick beside any books currently on the Kobo so you can see at a glance what you have in Calibre and what you have on the device.

You get "Send to Device" and another "Device" Icon on the top menu bar which includes the send to device command and other options to configure device settings, I didn't change anything in there, you can do things like file format etc.
I can see in the options you can select your preferred file format, create bookshelves, upload covers and much more.

You can also right click on a title and Send to device so sending books up and down is a breeze and with Calibre you can set it so any books are converted automatically into a format such as Epub or similar when storing them or sending to devices so converting to a format is no problem either.

The right click menu even has an option for on the fly conversion, "Send Specific format to", top marks here for allowing multiple methods for doing it, some will prefer batch conversion, some will do it right click, it doesn't matter on your preference it's catered for in Calibre.

All in all a 2 second task to connect Kobo to Ubuntu and Calibre, no drivers needed, plug it in, connect, send files to device, it really couldn't be better than that.
